SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Officials with the Utah Department of Health on Tuesday said 315 more Utahns have tested positive for COVID-19 and eight more residents have lost their lives due to the virus.
Officials said four of those deaths occurred prior to March 20.
An additional 18,065 vaccines have been administered, bringing the state’s total to more than 1.91 million, and there were 138 people hospitalized with the virus.

Testing
UDOH reports 2,498,939 people have been tested — 5,100 more than Monday. Of those, 393,272 Utahns have tested positive for COVID-19, which is an increase of 315 new cases.
The rolling seven-day average for positive tests was 375 — down from 382 on Monday.
The rolling seven-day average for percent positivity of “people over people” dropped to 6.7% while the rolling seven-day average for percent positivity of “tests over tests” dropped to 3.2%.
Vaccinations
The state has administered 1,916,922 vaccines in total, which is an increase of 18,065 over Monday’s numbers. As of Tuesday, 1,202,333 Utahns have received at least one dose of a vaccine and 799,291 Utahns have been fully vaccinated.
Over 2.16 million vaccines have been delivered to Utah.
Hospitalizations
Currently, 138 people are hospitalized with confirmed cases of COVID-19, and 57 of those people are in intensive care units.
Utah’s ICUs were 59% full and the ICU beds in Utah’s referral centers were 63.4% full Tuesday.
“At about 69% overall ICU utilization, ICUs in Utah’s major hospitals with the ability to provide best care for COVID-19 patients begin to reach staffing capacity,” UDOH officials said. “Seventy-two percent use among all hospitals and 77% in referral center hospitals creates major strains on the health care system. When 85% capacity is reached, Utah will be functionally out of staffed ICU beds, indicating an overwhelmed hospital system.”
Deaths
Eight more Utahns have died due to COVID-19. Health officials said four of those deaths occurred before March 20.
To date, the virus has killed 2,174 of the state’s residents.

- Female, older than 85, Uintah County resident, long-term care facility resident
- Female, between 65-84, Carbon County resident, not hospitalized
- Female, between 65-84, Salt Lake County resident, not hospitalized
- Male, between 25-44, Weber County resident, hospitalized
- Male, older than 85, Utah County resident, long-term care facility resident
- Female, older than 85, Sanpete County resident, long-term care facility resident
- Female, between 65-84, Weber County resident, hospitalized
- Female, between 45-64, Uintah County resident, hospitalized
