Driver charged with manslaughter for 2020 car crash

PRICE, UT— A 21-year-old man that was involved in a car accident that ended up with the passenger’s death had been charged.

The accident happened on Sept.27, 2020, and Skyler Clay McCade Harper,21 was on Airport Road near the Desert Thunder Raceway, when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road and crashed into a power pole. He was going an estimated 60 mph over the speed limit prior to the accident when the 19-year-old passenger was ejected from the seat and killed.

He was charged on Friday in the 7th District Court with manslaughter, a second-degree felony.

Reportedly, the vehicle was found 50 feet off the road.

“It was apparent the vehicle rolled to the destination and ejected one of the occupants,” the sheriff’s office stated. “The driver of the vehicle stated that the accident was a result of an overcorrection from trying to miss a deer on the road.”

Investigators determined the vehicle had been going between 107 and 116 mph on the 55-mph road just prior to the crash, charging documents state.
