SALT LAKE, Utah – A new infographic designed to help leaders assist unmarried adult members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, headquartered in Salt Lake City, was released Thursday.
More than half of all adult church members are single and the senior leaders of the church made changes earlier this month to help all have more opportunities to serve. Several senior leaders also spoke about ministering to single adult members during the faith’s 191st Annual General Conference.
The graphic provides information from surveys of single adult members describing their needs, the struggles some face, where they find spiritual strength and how leaders can help.
Single adult members said, for example, that they benefit from social support and belonging, connection to God and relevant experiences. Some struggle with feeling judged and with potentially disruptive transitions.
The graphic also suggests ideas generated by American single adult members such as increasing service opportunities, providing more space at church to discuss difficult topics and creating an atmosphere that fosters deeper and more meaningful relationships.
The Deseret News recently compiled a story that included the new callings available to young single adults, some statistics and the new statements of senior church leaders. It also included the reaction of some single adults to the new callings and the leaders’ statements.
