PROVO, Utah — Utah County Health Department workers have been getting “swamped” with messages and phone calls from people who want the COVID-19 vaccine but are not yet eligible to receive it.

“Although they mean well, it takes away from our efforts to help those 70+,” a tweet from UCHD says.

Health departments around the state are currently working to vaccinate Utah residents age 70 and older. Beginning next month, the cut-off age will drop to 65, and the state will also allow some people with chronic or severe illnesses to schedule their vaccinations.

“Please be aware we can only fill open appointments with those who are currently eligible. Any unfilled appointment slots will be reallocated throughout the rest of the week. We are committed to using all of our vaccine supply each week, in alignment with the governor’s request,” the tweet says. “Please wait for your eligibility category.”
