PROVO, Utah – After a Sunday that was slow even by Sunday standards, Utah reported just 164 new cases of COVID-19, the fewest in almost two months. But only 2,423 Utahns were tested for the first time, and just 4,564 people were tested overall.
The number of Utahns fully vaccinated against the coronavirus rose to 1.117 million, and the Utah Department of Health also reported one more death caused by COVID-19.

Hospitalizations reported in past day • 148. That’s five fewer than on Sunday. Of those currently hospitalized, 51 are in intensive care, one more than on Sunday.
Percentage of positive tests • Under the state’s original method, the rate is 6.8%. That’s slightly higher than the seven-day average of 6.6%.
The state’s new method counts all test results, including repeated tests of the same individual. Monday’s rate was 3.6%, the same as the seven-day average.
