PROVO, Utah – Thirteen more Utahns have died of COVID-19, according to the Utah Department of Health, bringing the state’s total to 2,249. Twelve of those deaths occurred before April 12 and were only recently confirmed to have been caused by the coronavirus.
The state also reported 468 new cases on Wednesday, and a total of 1.073 million Utahns are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Salt Lake County reported eight deaths — a man and a woman between the ages of 65 and 84, and four women and two men age 85 or older.
There were two deaths in Utah County — both men 85-plus.
Three counties each reported a single death — a woman 85-plus in Wasatch County, a woman 65 to 84 in Washington County, and a man 85-plus in Weber County.
Tests reported in past day • 6,480 people were tested for the first time. A total of 13,780 people were tested.
Hospitalizations reported in past day • 142. That’s unchanged from Tuesday. Of those currently hospitalized, 57 are in intensive care. That’s also unchanged from Tuesday.
Percentage of positive tests • Under the state’s original method, the rate is 7.2%. That’s higher than the seven-day average of 6.5%.
The state’s new method counts all test results, including repeated tests of the same individual. Wednesday’s rate was 3.4%, about the same as the seven-day average of 3.6%.
