State Route 92 through American Fork Canyon was closed for much of Sunday morning after a fatal motorcycle crash.

At approximately 3:10 a.m., a young motorcyclist was traveling westbound through the canyon when he failed to negotiate a turn and crashed, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. The rider died at the scene, officials say.

“The cause of the accident is unknown at this time,” troopers said, noting that the rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The victim is a male in his early 20s, from Utah County. He had not been publicly identified as of this report.

SR-20 had reopened as of 1 p.m. Sunday, UHP confirmed.
